University life can be exciting, challenging and sometimes overwhelming. From academic pressure to new social environments, students navigate many changes at once. That’s why moments of connection can matter so much.
This year, University Mental Health Day, organised by Student Minds, focuses on a simple but powerful theme: Human Connection.
Research consistently shows that strong relationships play an important role in protecting mental health. In universities, feeling connected to peers, staff and learning communities can support wellbeing, engagement and confidence. Small moments of connection can make a difference: studying alongside someone rather than alone, checking in with a friend after a difficult week, or simply sharing how things are really going.
At Mindapples, we believe looking after our minds should be as natural as brushing our teeth. Through our work with universities, we help students and staff develop practical ways to take care of their mental wellbeing, learn about how their minds work and share what helps with others. Our sessions, delivered in person and live online, create spaces for reflection, conversation and peer learning.
Sometimes the most powerful question we can ask is a simple one:
What helps you look after your mind?
Talking about what helps, and hearing what helps others, can open up conversations and strengthen the sense that we’re not facing challenges alone.
As universities continue to adapt to new technologies and changing ways of learning, these human connections remain essential.
