By understanding our personality traits, we can unlock our strengths, improve our relationships with others, and reach our potential in life and work.
Understanding your mind can help you maintain your health and performance, play to your strengths and manage your weaknesses. It can also help you understand other people better too. So what can our personalities teach us how we should live and work?
There are many measures of personality, but the most widely-used is ‘Big Five’ personality traits model, a well-tested framework which has been used by academic psychologists for several decades to offer insights into the most fundamental aspects of our characters.
We can use this model to find out how we each relate to the five key personality traits of openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and sensitivity – and use them to explore how we can harness our strengths and improve on our weaknesses.
Everyone is different, so don’t try to be good at everything. Knowing how different traits affect our behaviour and skills can empower each of us to work smarter and feel better, and learning about the personalities of others can help us understand our relationships, be more influential, and work together in more collaborative and productive ways.
