At the heart of Mindapples’ approach in universities lies the Wellbeing Competency Framework, designed to enhance personal and interpersonal competencies across two main categories for students and staff. We have worked with a number of our university partners to put together a comprehensive set of skills and knowledge needed to promote mental health and wellbeing across a university community.
The framework covers competencies for individuals managing themselves, and competencies for staff and peer supporters:
- Personal Competencies: Self-management and resilience are the key skills every student and staff member should develop for individual wellbeing.
- Interpersonal Competencies: Essential competencies for those responsible for supporting others, promoting wellbeing and having informed conversations about mental health.
The Mindapples Wellbeing Competency Framework offers clear guidance on the behaviours, knowledge, and tools needed to build personal wellbeing and support others effectively. It is supported by extensive research and over 100 references, and also fits with the priorities of the University Mental Health Charter to help institutions deliver on their strategic objectives.
We have used this framework to map our interventions to the student journey to ensure we reach people with relevant, timely content that helps them most. This means Mindapples can deliver evidence-based programmes that give students and staff the skills they need to thrive.
